Module 1, Lesson 1:
Four Ways to Create
GAMMA 1O1

Gamma meets you where you're at
— so you have four different ways to get started depending on what you want to do.
When you click "Create New AI" from your dashboard, you'll see several options:
Generate, Paste, Import, and Remix from Template.
Let's break down when to use each one.

Generate
Generate is for when you're starting from scratch. You give Gamma a topic—something like "Coffee subscription service pitch deck"—and AI creates a structured draft for you. Outline, content, the whole thing.
This is perfect when you have an idea but you're staring at a blank page and don't know where to start. Gamma does the heavy lifting, and then you refine from there.
You can also customize your prompt more to give Gamma more specific instructions—like how many cards you want, what sections to include, stuff like that.

And here's a nice touch: you can choose whether you want AI to generate images, add placeholders for images you'll add later, or skip images entirely. Really depends on your workflow.
Paste
Paste is for when you already have content—maybe it's in a Google Doc, or you've got an outline in your notes app, or you just wrote a bunch of bullet points in Slack. You paste that content in here, and Gamma formats it into a beautiful, structured gamma.
The AI doesn't just dump your text onto slides—it actually organizes it, intelligently splits up your content, suggests layouts, and makes it look designed. It's like having a designer clean up your rough draft.

See? Same content, but now it's actually presentable. You can also adjust the tone and audience, and provide any additional instructions to customize your output.
Import
Import is for when you've got existing files or URLs you want to bring into Gamma. PowerPoint decks, Google Slides, Word docs, even PDFs. You can also import content from a website or article by just pasting the URL.
This is huge if you're migrating from another tool or if you want to repurpose existing content without starting over. Gamma pulls in your content and restructures it to work with cards.

One heads up—Import brings in the content, not the styling. So you'll want to apply a theme after importing to make it look polished. But that takes like two clicks, so not a big deal.
Remix from Template
Remix from Template is for when you want a head start with professional structure and design, but you need it customized to your specific content. You pick a template—maybe a pitch deck, a project proposal, or a marketing one-pager—and then AI adapts it to your topic.
So instead of starting with a blank slate or a generic template you have to manually fill in, you get a template that's already populated with relevant content for your specific use case. Best of both worlds.

You just tell Gamma what you want to create, and it fills in the template structure with your content. The layout and design are already done, so you're really just refining from there.
decision guide 🤔
So here's how I think about it:
Got an outline or notes?
Starting completely from scratch?
Want structure + design + your content?
Repurposing something that already exists?

AI Credits
We give you AI credits for signing up and you can earn more through referrals. On a Free plan, your credits don't refresh, but you can always upgrade to one of our paid plans to get more AI, monthly credit refreshes, remove Gamma branding, and more. Unused credits roll over to up to double your plan's monthly amount.

Different actions use different amounts of credits—asking Agent to restructure a full gamma uses more than asking Agent to edit a single card. You can see your credit balance here [point], and Gamma will let you know before you run out.
